Five Short 100-Word Stories
Letting Go
Mark stared at the text on his screen. Apologies spilled from it, each word a reminder of the hurt he’d felt for so long. The anger had been a familiar companion, steady and reassuring. But tonight, something tugged at him, soft and insistent.
With a deep breath, he typed back, “I forgive you.”
The words felt foreign, almost fragile, but as he sent them, a weight lifted, and the anger that had anchored him began to fade. Forgiveness didn’t erase the past, but in that moment, he realized it wasn’t about forgetting—it was about freeing himself to finally move forward.
The Gift Unseen
At the café, Emma watched as the man ahead fumbled for coins, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Without a word, she handed the cashier a crumpled bill and motioned to cover his coffee. He glanced back, eyes wide, caught off guard.
“You didn’t have to,” he mumbled, almost uncomfortable.
Emma smiled. “It’s so nice to give, isn’t it?”
Later, when she reached into her purse, she found a note he’d slipped inside: “Thank you for seeing me.” She hadn’t expected anything in return, but sometimes, generosity meant more than the gift—it became the silent reminder that we’re never alone.
A Quiet Thanks
In the morning light, Sarah sipped her coffee, watching the sunrise cast warm hues across her quiet backyard. The world around her was simple, ordinary—nothing grand or monumental. Yet, as she sat, a quiet feeling settled over her, gentle as the breeze.
She thought of her family, her small home, the work that filled her days. None of it perfect, but each piece was hers, stitched together like a cherished quilt.
With a soft smile, she whispered, “Thank you.”
It was a small moment, but gratitude didn’t need an audience. It only needed her, fully present, to be whole.
Truth Unveiled
In the quiet of a late evening, Daniel’s words lingered, unspoken, swallowed by the fear that had lived within him for years. He’d always believed the lie was easier; small,
protective lies meant to shield, to soften. But tonight, something shifted. He saw the shadow in Lily’s eyes—her trust wavering, a brittle thing poised to shatter.
“Let’s not do this anymore,” he said, voice trembling. “I want to be honest.”
Silence filled the room, then Lily’s steady breath, a fragile, cleansing balm. The truth was raw, painful, but in that moment, the weight lifted, and trust began to bloom.
The First Step
The team sat in stone silence, the air was thick with ideas too timid to surface. Everyone saw the problem, yet no one spoke, each waiting for someone else to make the first move.
Then, Alex cleared her throat. “I think we should try a new approach,” she said, voice steady, gaze unwavering. Heads turned, surprised, but relieved.
A spark ignited, words followed, and plans began to unfold. By the end, they had a path forward, each person energized by her courage. Alex knew her idea wasn’t perfect, but taking the first step was enough to turn silence into progress.
Looking Forward:
Next week, we’ll cover five more traits.
The last issue in their series will cover one exceptional trait. I’m also going to have a guest writer, Libby Shively McAvoy. I’m sure many of you know her writing.
If the concept of 5 traits, in 100 words each in your inbox, sounds engaging, please give me some feedback. DR
