ADAPTABILITY - "Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome" ~ The United States Marine Corp.
Corporate world - Learn to pivot.
Do You Need A Larger Sign?
In a pinch, be adaptable. Change of plans? Adapt. The house isn’t clean, the dishes are not done, and your wife is in tears? Roll your sleeves up, adapt, and change.
It sounds simple because it is. Have you ever met that “my way or the highway guy?“ He doesn’t know how to change, and the ones I’ve met don’t care what others think. As I said, “My way or the highway.”
Pivot
The word has been around for a long time, but we have never used it like we do now. As a young business owner, I remember many businesses where some older person would invariably say, “We’ve always done it this way.”
What always followed in my mind was this: “…and you kept expecting a different result.”
My success with my first companies was only because, after analyzing the situation, I was willing to make changes to achieve a different result; in other words, we’d pivot.
Moms
Mom is the best example of someone who can pivot or adapt. She always succeeded. Meat, spoiled, we’re having salad. Tire flat, “We’ll take the time to fix it.” Going to be late, “What’s the worst that can happen.” “I was going to go, but Johnny fell and sprained his ankle.” Moms, they never get the credit they deserve.
As An Employer
Many of the companies I’ve owned have been startups. You can’t start a brand new company and not be adaptable. If you think you know everything, you’re mistaken.
Happiness
The older I get, the more I have to adapt. What was once so easy is often very difficult. I have to adapt. Adapting and the willingness to do so has brought me even more happiness and joy. Try it.
This is an exciting series. until next week,
DR Rawson - The Possibilist
Author’s Notes:
Next week, we’ll cover five more traits.
The last issues in their series will cover one exceptional trait. I’m also going to have a guest writer, Libby Shively McAvoy. I’m sure many of you know her writing.
If the concept of 1 trait, in 100 words in your inbox each day, sounds engaging, please give me some feedback. DR
It is important to be adaptable, i agree. Thank you for sharing DR.
